Meet the Pitch Up Participants
HireUp is an online platform revolutionising the way Australians with disability find, hire and manage their own support workers. For too long, people with disability have had to accept support work on someone else’s terms so they are taking a new approach and doing it by investing in technology and the community. HireUp has created an online peer-to-peer network to directly connect people with disability and support workers. A system that matches people with disability and support workers not just on qualification but on shared interests.
Flying Fox is a network of fun and life changing opportunities that connect people with a disability and the community. By addressing the problem of social isolation of people with a disability, Flying Fox is a youth run organisation that provides opportunities for young people with special needs and young people without special needs to simply have fun together. Since 2014, Flying Fox has run over 8 camps for over 100 young people with special needs supported by over 300 passionate young adults and set up The Best Bunch, a social enterprise florists that provides an employment opportunity for people with a disability. Flying Fox is currently developing a unique and profitable innovation; accredited training programs for young people to work in disability, with the aim to educate 1000 young people a year by 2020.
The Last Straw
The Last Straw is a campaign to end the use of plastic straws in Australia. Aiming to tackle the issue from both sides – encouraging consumers to use less plastic straws and encouraging businesses to give out less straws through staff training and managing the responsible disposal of any plastic straws that are used. The Last Straw believes that it makes no sense to continue to use plastic straws at the volume we do, and that big change can be made through small everyday actions driven by you.
IZRA exists to connect young Australians with purpose and resilience. We believe that purpose and resilience can be the determinants in whether young people are defined by their challenges or if they are empowered by them. Through creative programs and an online platform, IZRA is equipping young people with entrepreneurial and practical employability skills taught to them by young leaders. IZRA wants to expand their reach and make their programs more accessible for regional West Australians, whilst also creating an interactive film series and workbooks to use within schools.
Social Change Central
Social Change Central (SCC) will be Australia’s first dedicated online hub for social enterprises. SCC will connect, encourage and support social enterprises and aspiring entrepreneurs. It will be an easy-to-use, comprehensive self service database which will collate the most up-to-date opportunities available in Australia and internationally, including funding, programs, awards, conferences and more. As Australia’s first dedicated online hub for social enterprises, SCC will foster collaboration and stronger, more sustainable social enterprises by helping them connect with and secure the support they need.
